The EAS conference in Lyon, where last week I had the opportunity to give several presentations – including on the new Technology-Enhanced Music Education learning pathway of the Bachelor of Music in Education programme at ArtEZ Conservatorium Enschede – took an even more exciting turn for me during the General Assembly.

A few months ago, I was approached by the now newly appointed chair and vice-chair of EAS (Marina Gall and Thade Buchborn respectively) to put myself forward as a candidate for a position on the EAS Board.

Naturally, I felt honoured by their request, though it came as a surprise, and I had to give it some thought, especially in light of my other commitments. However, it is a valuable opportunity to help shape the direction of this professional learning community together with experienced researchers and educators in music education, and a chance to strengthen and make use of the link with the EAS network for the benefit of our own music education. For these reasons, I decided to stand for election.

On Friday, during the General Assembly, the registered EAS members voted. The result: together with seven others, I was elected to serve on the EAS Board for the next two-year term.

It is an honourable role, which I hope to fulfil with dedication. I intend to bring in my experience from serving on the boards of NMP and VLS, as well as from my work at ArtEZ (and other educational institutions I have been privileged to work for) and with Muzketier (including for the Méér Muziek in de Klas foundation). In particular, I aim to strengthen the network and visibility of Dutch music education and connect it to that in the rest of Europe.
