On 9 December 2023, ArtEZ Conservatorium Enschede, in collaboration with the VLS professional association for music teachers, organised a study day. For ArtEZ, I coordinate this professional development programme in the field of technology-enhanced music education.
The day was opened by Per Berlin Englund, a teacher at Rytmus Musik Gymnasium in Malmö, Sweden. This was followed by two rounds in which participants could choose from four sessions:
Session A: The (Digital) History of Pop Music (by Jan-Wolter Smit)
In this interactive workshop, you will learn how digital tools can be used to integrate the history of pop music into your teaching materials.
Session B: Activating Students through Technology (by Reinout Vrijhoef)
In this session, you will discover how to actively engage students in lessons through the use of technology. Both the advantages and disadvantages will be discussed.
Session C: Musical Activities with (Music) Technology as Inspiration (by Benno Spieker)
In this session, participants will explore with me how technology can also serve as inspiration for creative musical activities.
Session D: Music Technology Playground (supported by students from the Bachelor of Music in Education at ArtEZ Conservatorium Enschede)
In this session, various forms of music technology are available for participants to use. It’s all about trying things out, discovering, exploring, and experimenting — with help always close at hand.
The study day concluded with a question-and-answer session, followed by drinks — providing, as at lunch, an opportunity to meet and network with other participants.
