BandLab allows you to record MIDI using your computer keyboard or a MIDI controller. You can easily capture melodies, chords, and rhythms using software instruments.

Set Up a MIDI Track

  1. Click + Add Track.
  2. Select Instrument.
  3. Choose an instrument sound (e.g. Piano, Synth, Drums).

Set Up the Metronome

Turn on the metronome for better timing. Choose a tempo and use count-in to get use to the tempo and start your recording perfectly in time.

Record MIDI

  1. Click the red Record button.
  2. Play notes using a MIDI controller or your QWERTY keyboard (using BandLab’s virtual keys).
  3. Click Stop to finish.

MIDI FX

BandLab supports real-time MIDI FX.

After Recording

  • Double-click the region to open the Piano Roll.
  • Edit pitch, timing, length or velocity as needed.

Importing MIDI Files

You can also import a MIDI file, just like importing an audio file.

  1. Click Import Audio/MIDI/Video files.
  2. Select a .mid file or drag from your device — it will be added as a new instrument track.
