Within the framework of the MuziekopleidersAkkoord, the foundation Méér Muziek in de Klas is working to strengthen the role of technology and digital didactics in music education in primary education (PO), secondary education (VO), vocational education (MBO) and higher education (HBO). To this end, a professional learning community (PLC) has been launched.

As part of a wider inventory, a kick-off session will be organized on 8 October, 2025, It is a closed session with a range of experts in digital didactics, music technology and related fields within music education.

Together with Bert van Uffelen (Hogeschool Rotterdam) and the Méér Muziek in de Klas team, I will prepare and host this session, for which we found an excellent venue.

Back to the Future

In much of today’s music, electronic and digital technology has become indispensable. Yet in many schools, current music education does not yet reflect this reality.

The kick-off session will take place at Willem Twee Studios in ‘s Hertogenbosch (Netherlands), which houses an extensive collection of historical synthesizers as well as measurement and testing equipment from the era of Schaeffer, Varèse, and Stockhausen: composers who experimented with electronic music already about 75 years ago.

We will draw inspiration from this historical technology and from early music production techniques. Afterwards, we will discuss together what is needed to advance the use of technology in music education, which steps should be taken, and where we should begin.

Ultimately, we hope that this group will remain committed as a sounding board for the PLC and perhaps even take part in certain steps of its development.

If you are working in education in The Netherlands and want to participate in this PLC yourself, please get in contact with me or Méér Muziek in de Klas.
