Interview on Radio 100,7 / Opus 100,7
On Wednesday 18 October 2023, I was a guest at the national radio station Radio 100,7 / Opus 100,7 (Luxembourg) together with Luc Nijs, Associate Professor at the University of Luxembourg, to talk about the use of technology in music education. The occasion for the interview was the presentation I was invited to give at the University of Luxembourg that same evening.
Both Luc Nijs and I conduct research into technology in music education. Luc focuses on instrumental music education and early childhood, while I concentrate on training music teachers for primary and secondary school music education.
In the interview, we share our views on applying technology in music education and how we approach this in our research. Technology is something music teachers can no longer ignore – and, if you think about it, never really could. After all, acoustic instruments are also a form of technology, and today’s digital, interactive, and music-specific technologies are essentially an evolution of these.
The interview was broadcast on 19 October 2023 and can be replayed on the station’s website:
“Research does not only take place hidden away in libraries. More and more often, the research process is carried out in practice to test new methods. This is also the field of work of the two researchers, Benno Spieker and Luc Nijs. In a conversation with Christophe Mirkes, the two revealed the role they believe technology should take on. But first, they explain what they are specifically researching, starting with the projects of Benno Spieker.”
